【Report:Piano Lessons in Okinawa】Students’ Concert & Meetup
June 6, 2026 (Sat) 14:00〜
@Life Center Biblos-Do
Last week, I held a students’ concert (or rather, a study session and social gathering) at Biblos-Do cafe for my piano class.
This event was organized with two main goals in mind:
・To help students get used to performing in front of an audience
・To provide a chance for students of various nationalities and generations—all united by their love of the piano—to interact
In fact, we were able to maintain a relaxed atmosphere throughout the event, with everyone enjoying a cup of tea.
Regarding the performances, some students were performing in front of an audience for the first time and were a bit nervous at first, but once they were inspired by others’ performances and sat down at the piano, they seemed to get into the groove and played with obvious enjoyment.
Being able to perform in a setting different from their usual lessons must have been a very valuable experience for them.
As for me, I played Chopin’s Heroic Polonaise and Nocturne, Rachmaninoff’s Prelude, as well as pop songs by artists like John Legend, requested jazz pieces, and video game music.
I decided to close the program with the U.S. National Anthem. I think it’s the most impressive national anthem in the world. Even when played on the piano, this piece is perfect—from the harmony and the beauty of the secondary melody to the dynamic contrast and the way it builds to a climax.
I’m so glad everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Beyond the performances, we deepened our connections over coffee. It was a truly international gathering—with people from Japan, the U.S., South Korea, and more—and a wide range of ages, from children to adults in their 80s. I’m really glad we held this event.
There were some students who couldn’t attend due to a family bereavement or because their schedules were too busy. I definitely plan to hold another event like this for those students as well.
I’d also like to thank Ms. Kyoko for bringing her students to watch!
